Why a BBQ at Blue Lagoon

A beach BBQ sounds simple, but it stands or falls with the quality of the grill, the freshness of the ingredients, and the logistics surrounding it. What sets our BBQ apart is the combination of those three. We grill live for guests, not in a kitchen beforehand and then covered up; this keeps the meat and fish at the right temperature and flavour. Our fish supplier is within walking distance in the port of Scheveningen, meaning we can put tuna, sea bream, salmon, and seasonal fish on the grill the same day. The meat comes from regular butchers we've worked with for years, with a selection ranging from classic spare ribs and Black Angus burgers to special cuts for a group that wants more.

The setting is perfect. We are located on the quieter northern part of the beach, far enough from the hustle and bustle of the Pier and the Kurhaus that your party won't blend into the surrounding beach traffic. It's close enough, however, that your guests can reach us in 25 minutes from Den Haag CS. In good weather, the BBQ will be on the terrace with the sea right in front of us. If the weather is less favourable, it will be in the covered conservatory with the same view. Our kitchen stays open until 10:30 PM and the bar until midnight, so after the barbecue, the evening can continue just as you wish.

What's going on the grill

The BBQ arrangement is always bespoke. We work with a number of set menus that you can combine depending on group size, budget and preferences.

On the meat side, there are classic dishes such as spareribs with homemade sauce, Black Angus burger with truffle mayo, chicken skewers, steak tips, and chorizo. For those who want to push the boat out, we also serve tomahawk steak and specialities like grilled lamb chops or black tiger prawns. On the fish side, there's tuna steak, bream, salmon fillet, and seasonal fish fresh from Scheveningen harbour, plus oysters and prawns as a starter. The vegetarian range includes grilled aubergine, large portobello mushrooms, halloumi, stuffed peppers, and seasonal vegetables from the oven, all prepared with the same care as the meat or fish.

Alongside this, you'll receive salads and side dishes from our own kitchen: a mixed salad, a pasta salad, a potato dish, bread with homemade butter and aioli, plus a rotation of seasonal side dishes. We make our own sauces, so no bottles on the table.

Vegetarian, vegan and dietary requirements

Vegetarian food is not an afterthought for us, but a separate offering with the same freshness and attention to detail as our fish and meat. For vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, halal, and pregnant guests, we have separate portions as standard. Please inform us of any dietary requirements at least a week before your BBQ, so we can prepare them in the kitchen without cross-contamination.

A BBQ on the beach works for most group occasions where it can be festive without being formal. Corporate outings and staff parties where you want to give colleagues something memorable that doesn't feel like just another conference room lunch. Bachelor and hen parties for both men and women, often combined with an afternoon on the beach or an activity beforehand. Birthdays and anniversaries where generations differ and the setting works for everyone. Family parties and baby showers. Weddings and wedding receptions that don't want to be confined within four walls. Sports clubs or associations planning an end-of-season celebration.

Our BBQ packages scale up, from a group of 15 to several hundred guests at larger events. For very large groups or full venue buyouts, we discuss date and logistics in advance when providing a quote.

A typical BBQ evening

The exact running order of the evening depends on the package, but this structure works well for most groups. Arrive around 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM for a welcome drink on the terrace. There's time to settle in and for the group to gather. The grill will be fired up around 6:30 PM or 7:00 PM, starting with the starters and then the main courses served in waves. Guests can mingle freely, help themselves to food, and dine at tables we've arranged according to group size. Salads and side dishes will be centrally located in a buffet where guests can serve themselves. Throughout the evening, the bar will be serving cocktails, wine, and beer.

Following the main course, dessert will be served (homemade, no ready-made options), after which the evening will continue with drinks or a party until midnight at the latest. For groups wishing to extend their stay, we will discuss the options in advance.

Combine with other arrangements

A BBQ is often combined with other activities for a complete day or evening. A popular combination is a business meeting during the day followed by a BBQ, with the work part transitioning into relaxation on the terrace at 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. hen parties is a combination with a beach activity beforehand (paddleboarding, beach challenge, cocktail workshop) a good addition. For wedding receptions, a BBQ as the main meal often works better than a formal dinner, with more room for guests to mingle and move around. For Company parties On a large scale, we are linking the BBQ to further programme development with live music or a DJ.

Location and accessibility

We are located at Strand Noord 25-27 in Scheveningen, on the northern part of the boulevard past the Kurhaus towards the harbour. From Den Haag CS, you can reach us in approximately 25 minutes by tram 1 or 9 (Kurhaus stop). By car from The Hague city centre, it takes about 15 minutes via the Scheveningseweg or Nieuwe Parklaan. The Kurhaus car park and Nieuwe Parklaan car park, both within walking distance, offer over 1500 spaces combined. For guests staying overnight, the hotels Kurhaus, Carlton Beach, and NH Atlantic are all within walking distance.

When making your request, please specify: the desired date (and any alternatives), number of guests, type of event (corporate outing, bachelor/bachelorette party, birthday, etc.), any dietary requirements, and special requests. We usually send a tailored quote with a price per person, BBQ components, and any add-ons within 1 working day.

For peak season dates (May to September) and sunny weekend days, we recommend planning at least 4 weeks in advance. For off-season weekdays, it is more flexible. For large groups (75+) or special requests, please book 8 weeks in advance.
